 About AATSS

Capitol Hill

The Arizona State Legislature is back in session!

Issues AATSS is addressing this year are:

  1. Legislation that will reduce the burden on temp services for unemployment compensation. The proposed bill will exempt from eligibility those employees who are clearly told upon beginning work that their assignment is temporary and lasts less than 180 days. This bill was actually brainstormed by our friends at the Arizona Chamber of Commerce. Another example of good collaboration strategy!

  2. Job training and workforce development. It is expected that millions of dollars for job training will be block granted to Arizona and appropriated by the Legislature. Bill Hernandez, Director of the Department of Education and Rehab Services, has been working to prepare for the coming programmatic changes in the way job training and development funds have traditionally been used. Through Bill's "Business Initiatives Partnerships" several temp agency volunteers have participated in committee meetings to design privatized training curricula for electronic assembly and customer service. At this writing the curricula have been developed and a letter is being sent to the prospective private training entities (including temp services who do such training) to be providers of the training for eligible candidates (e.g. those coming off welfare, unemployment, disability, etc.). The training is designed to be entry-level basic-skill stuff that will increase the likelihood that these candidates will have the necessary competencies to get through the screening process and be hired.
If you have other specific industries that need curriculum developed and subsequent implementation, call the AATSS voice mail and leave the info — 602.258.1403
